What I'm working on, reading, and thinking about, updated June 2026.

Working on

  • Advising two Series B engineering teams on data platform architecture and AI integration, with one geospatial and one B2B SaaS.
  • Writing a series of deep-dive articles on AI agent reliability in production: failure modes, cost controls, and observability patterns.
  • Building out andreinita.co with new features: glossary, series navigation, auto-generated table of contents, embedded media.
  • Preparing a conference talk submission on the engineering P&L framework.

Reading

  • Alchemy by Rory Sutherland: behavioral economics applied to product and positioning decisions. Better than it has any right to be.
  • An Elegant Puzzle by Will Larson: engineering management at the systems level. The chapter on technical debt prioritization is worth re-reading quarterly.
  • The Pragmatic Programmer (20th anniversary edition), going back to the source after working with too much AI-generated code that ignores these principles.
  • The Pragmatic Engineer newsletter, still the most rigorous engineering leadership publication running.

Thinking about

  • Why most "AI strategy" at the CTO level is still performance rather than practice, and what distinguishes teams that have crossed the line.
  • Whether the "platform engineering" organizational model is the right answer to internal developer experience, or whether it creates its own bottlenecks at the wrong scale.
  • The compounding effect of blog content as a career asset vs. the diminishing returns of social media presence. The data keeps supporting long-form.
